As funding permits, classrooms are being connected to the wide area network (WAN). The Board's main link to its Internet Provider (Bell Atlantic) is via a Cisco router /CSU over an SMDS line. The Board, in turn, connects to every school from the main router in the Boards office to a smaller router in each school over a T-1 line. The T-1 line connects to a 10 base-T local area network in the schools (100mg on the collapsed backbone). Backbone wiring not only links the LANs in each school but also the entire WAN (and therefore every school) to the Internet/Intranet.

The backbone in each school consists of: 12 strand fiber, rg11 coax and copper for voice connected to the buildings phone demarc, all run between the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) and Intermediate Distribution frames (IDF). The MDF room (cabinet) is connected to IDF's (cabinets) on the floors (determined by distances) of the school buildings.
