Imagining Sounds

Imagining Sounds application

Activity:

1. Ask students to imagine a sound for some or all of the types of sounds and for some or all of the four uses.

2. Ask students to listen to some of the sounds available for each of the four types of sounds. They can name the sounds to make it easier to remember which ones they want to use.

3. All answer can be printed - or the small text files created by students can be collected in a folder.

The Main Idea

To explore how sounds can be used for different purposes, students can take a set of images and support a particular meaning by adding a sound with a defined purpose. The first part of each storyboard (or image set) asks students to provide context with a sound, the second image asks them to illustrate something in the picture with a sound, the third asks them to express an opinion with a sound and the last one asks them to decorate the image with a sound.
